About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Registered Nurse with a passion to join our Senior Nursing Team as a Duty Nurse Manager. In this role you will work autonomously and be responsible for the co-ordination and management of patient flow processes for Ashburton Hospital and our wider services (including Tuarangi Home, District Nursing, other Rural Hospitals and Home Support services after hours) across weekdays, after hours, weekends and Public Holidays. You will demonstrate a wide-ranging career expertise and a pragmatic, organised approach with an obvious passion to multitask and make sound decisions on the go. With opportunities to learn and develop your own skills, you can help us build on our reputation for excellent service delivery.
About the Service
This role covers and supports Ashburton Hospital and our wider services (including Tuarangi Home, District Nursing, other Rural Hospitals and Home Support services after hours). Within Ashburton Hospital we have the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), Ward 1 and Ward 2. The AAU sees a diverse range of presentations, ranging from Triage 1 for immediate resuscitation through to Triage 5 who require less urgent care. Experience in emergency/acute care work, phlebotomy and being cannulation certified is advantageous. Ward 1 is a 21-bed acute medical ward based at Ashburton Hospital. In this fast-paced environment, our team cares for a wide variety of patients including high dependency, medical and palliative care patients. Ward 2 is Assessment, Treatment and rehab along with non-weight bearing patients, consisting of 18 beds.
About You
This role is at times both challenging and demanding, plus at the same time is rewarding and never dull! Therefore, we are looking for someone who is collaborative by working alongside and in partnership with the senior nursing team, wider nursing colleagues and external DHBs/providers to provide an optimum service delivery for all users. It is the expectation that you will be working at the top of your scope both clinically and professionally, along with showing strong leadership skills and possessing a positive outlook. Additionally, you will have:
- Broad “acute” clinical experience and excellent collaborative skills that will enable you to communicate effectively across all disciplines and occupational groups.
- Extensive nursing experience either clinically or in a relevant senior nursing role.
- Expert clinical nursing knowledge with demonstrated leadership ability and sound people management skills.
- A solution-focused approach to your work with the ability to problem solve and think on your feet.
- Acute medical or surgical experience is essential.
- A NZ Registered Nurse with current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Post graduate experience in leadership and management and/or experience in nursing leadership is a definite advantage, but all applicants will be considered based on the applicants’ career experience and desire for a senior leadership position.
