The East Anglian Regional Radiation Protection Service (EARRPS) is a high-quality scientific and technical advisory service in the field of radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics. We are looking for a Senior Clinical Scientist, specialising in radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics to join our service.

The service promotes systems of work that ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff when using ionising and non-ionising sources of radiation such as x-rays, radioactive materials, lasers and UV cabinets. A wide range of services are provided including:

  • Imaging equipment performance testing and optimisation
  • Radiation facility design and environmental monitoring
  • Patient radiation dose assessment
  • Regulatory audits and advice
  • Instrument calibration
  • Radioactive waste management
  • Teaching and training

You will be responsible for leading and coordinating specific areas of the service depending on skills and experience. You will be a HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with significant experience in the delivery of diagnostic radiology physics and radiation protection services. You must be qualified to act as a Medical Physics Expert in relevant modalities and/or a Radiation Protection Advisor (or have sufficient knowledge and experience to apply for the relevant certification within 6 months of appointment). You will operate within both our HSE-recognised RPA Body and our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.

A passion for service delivery is essential along with an ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others. You must have excellent communication skills and experience of multidisciplinary teaching and training. You will be required to travel throughout the region on a regular basis and may be asked to work from other hospitals in the region, depending on service developments and individual circumstances.

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 13,000 staff and over 1100 beds, the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together - Safe, Kind, Excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave.

The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population. CUH is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves. We value our differences and fully advocate and support an inclusive working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential. We want to ensure our people are truly representative of all the communities that we serve.

This vacancy will close at midnight on 13th October 2026. Interviews are due to be held on 27th October 2026. All appointments with a start date on or after 1 October 2026 will be subject to a 12-week probationary period. This provides a structured and supportive period to help you settle into your role, with regular reviews and feedback.

As there is a 12-week probationary period, successful candidates are expected to have the Right to Work for a period of at least 6 months from the proposed start date. Immigration and Right to Work status will be discussed with successful candidates at conditional offer. CUH will not offer sponsorship to candidates that have applied for a fee waiver. Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full-time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa.
