  • Mine Planning & Scheduling – Supporting short-term and understanding long-term mine plans. Designing pit layouts and learning how schedules translate into daily production.
  • Field Time & Operational Exposure – Spending meaningful time in-pit or underground to understand equipment interactions, operational constraints, and how technical decisions play out on the ground.
  • Safety & Risk Foundations – Building a deep understanding of hazard management, conducting risk assessments, and contributing to a culture where safety underpins every decision.
  • Operational & Production Support – Working alongside supervisors to understand daily operations, analyse performance data, and contribute to safe and efficient production outcomes.
  • Technical Projects & Continuous Improvement – Assisting with improvement initiatives, adopting new technologies, and helping optimise mining processes across our operations.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration – Partnering with geology, geotechnical, processing, maintenance and operations teams to understand how disciplines integrate to support mine performance.

About the Role:

The 24-month BHP Mining Graduate Program brings people together to learn, build capability and gain confidence for the future. You'll build on the foundations you gained at university while developing skills that support a lifelong career.

From day one, you'll have structured onboarding, guided learning paths and support from your graduate cohort, your buddy and leaders who are passionate about helping you grow. You'll work on meaningful projects across resources, technology, decarbonisation and safe, sustainable operations, gaining hands‐on experience.

Join a workplace where your ideas matter, your development is prioritised and you can see the impact of your work. Many graduates say the friendships, networks and support they build during the program are among the most rewarding parts, and many of BHP's leaders began their own careers right here.

Depending on your discipline and preferred location, your role may be based in a residential community or operate on a Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) roster. Western Australia's Iron Ore assets are primarily FIFO, Queensland's Coal Operations are largely residential, and South Australia's Copper Operations offer a mix of both.

What We Offer You:

  • A Permanent role with BHP. Your graduate position can offer the beginning of a long, secure and successful career.
  • A culture of care, and connection. Be supported by resources and assistance programs for your mental health and well-being and opportunities to build friendships and networks that can last well beyond your first role.
  • Perks and benefits. Enjoy employee discounts, recognition programs, a competitive salary package, plus a performance-based bonus and employee share program.
  • Relocation Support within Australia. Provided where required to help you settle in smoothly.

What We're Looking For:

We're seeking graduates who are curious, strong problem solvers, strong communicators, analytical and committed to safety. You'll be comfortable balancing field work with office-based analysis, adaptable in dynamic environments, and motivated to solve complex problems with practical, real-world outcomes. Strong communication skills, effective teamwork and a learning mindset are essential.

Degrees we consider (including but not limited to): Mining Engineering or equivalent. To be eligible, you must have graduated within the past two years or be due to graduate by the end of 2027 with a Mining Engineering degree (or a closely related discipline). International students with a valid visa are welcome to apply. By February 2028, you must hold a visa with no work restrictions.
