Cadence Accountants & Advisors is an established accounting and advisory firm based in Camberwell Junction, working with successful privately owned businesses, family groups and individuals across tax, business advisory and financial planning.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Accountant who wants more than simply processing compliance work.

Accounting is changing quickly, and so are we.

Cadence is actively investing in AI, automation and smarter workflow technology to reduce repetitive compliance work and create more capacity for accountants to spend time solving problems, advising clients and developing professionally.

The role

You'll manage a portfolio of established SME and family-group clients and work closely with our Managers and Directors across compliance, tax planning and advisory engagements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals;
• Managing BAS, IAS, FBT and other taxation compliance;
• Managing your own client relationships and becoming a trusted point of contact;
• Participating in year-end tax planning and structuring discussions;
• Identifying opportunities to provide broader business and advisory assistance;
• Reviewing work prepared by graduate and intermediate accountants where appropriate;
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced accountants; and
• Working with the team to improve our systems, workflows and use of technology.

This is a hands-on Senior Accountant position, but one where we want you progressively spending more time with clients and less time on repetitive processing.

Who we're looking for

This is genuinely a Senior Accountant role, so we're looking for someone who already has a strong Australian public-practice foundation.

You will ideally have:

• 5+ years' Australian public practice experience;
• CA or CPA qualification, or be very close to completion;
• Strong experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for SME and family-group clients;
• Sound knowledge of CGT, Division 7A, GST, FBT and trust taxation;
• Experience with Xero and Xero Tax;
• Confidence dealing directly with clients;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; and
• The judgement to know when to resolve an issue yourself and when to involve a Manager or Director.

Experience reviewing junior accountants' work is highly regarded, but this is not primarily a people-management position.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is curious, dependable and interested in continuing to develop.
