About BW ESS

BW ESS is a global energy storage owner-operator, moving with speed to develop, deliver and operate market-leading projects. The business is active in the UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, Spain and Sweden. It has more than 540MWh of operating Battery Energy Storage Systems, with approximately 12GWh under construction and a development pipeline of several gigawatts. Part of BW Group, BW ESS builds on decades of global infrastructure experience, takes a long-term view of projects and partnerships, and focuses on unlocking value throughout the energy storage asset lifecycle.

How We Work

Our culture rests on a few clear foundations: talent density over team size, flexible people over fixed structures, context over control, results over processes, and transparent, clear feedback. We move fast, give people real ownership early, and expect strong judgement and accountability in return.

The Role

As Senior Accountant, you will be the technical accounting lead for BW ESS’s Australian portfolio, responsible for the integrity of financial information across corporate and project entities. This is a hands-on role covering financial reporting, technical accounting, audit, tax and compliance in a complex, multi-entity infrastructure environment. You will work across a growing portfolio of BESS projects and operating assets, maintaining strong financial controls and delivering accurate, audit-ready information.

What You’ll Do

  • Financial close and accounting: Own the monthly, quarterly and year-end close across corporate and project entities. Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts and consolidated financial information, and manage journals, accruals, reconciliations, payables, receivables and payments.
  • Technical and project accounting: Lead technical assessments under AASB and IFRS, and determine the right treatment for project expenditure, financing arrangements, acquisitions and other significant transactions. Lead accounting activity as projects move through development, construction and operations.
  • Statutory reporting and audit: Prepare statutory financial statements and disclosures, coordinate external audits and respond to audit requests.
  • Tax and compliance: Coordinate tax compliance across the portfolio with external tax advisers, and ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies and regulatory obligations.
  • Advisers and outsourced providers: Review outsourced accounting deliverables, and partner with external advisers and auditors on complex accounting matters.
  • Controls and governance: Strengthen financial controls, systems and processes, and support company secretarial activity where finance input is needed. Monitor emerging accounting developments and assess their impact on the business.

What You’ll Bring

  • CA or CPA qualification, with 5+ years’ experience in financial accounting and close processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, consolidations and tax regulations.
  • Experience managing payables, receivables, bookkeeping and payments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and improve processes and controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (e.g. Oracle, Xero).
  • Experience in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Experience with complex assets or infrastructure project accounting, and knowledge of industry-specific accounting practices and regulations.

Nice to have: Energy sector experience or a genuine interest in the sector.

Why Join

You’ll work on some of the largest energy storage assets being built today, with visibility across the full asset lifecycle. The mandate is large and the scope for impact and progression is real.
