The Community Engagement team strengthens two-way engagement and knowledge sharing with communities across Australia.

Our goal is to support people to prepare for and respond to natural hazards, helping build resilience in a changing climate.

We work with community organisations, emergency management agencies and government partners, using collaborative and human-centred approaches to engagement.

We focus particularly on communities that may face greater disaster risk due to higher exposure to hazards, increased vulnerability or reduced capacity to prepare and respond.

As a Community Engagement Officer in the Northern Territory, you will lead and deliver community engagement initiatives from planning and partnership development through to implementation and evaluation.

Your work will span the diverse climates and hazard environments of the Territory, from the tropical north to the arid centre.

You will work closely with partners to support communities across the Northern Territory, with a particular focus on remote and very remote communities, First Nations peoples, multicultural communities, transient populations and visitors.

As part of the Decision Support Services Program, you will collaborate with the Bureau's Hazard Preparedness and Response team in Darwin and contribute to broader Bureau priorities across the Northern Territory.

At the EL1 level, the role also includes leadership responsibilities focused on national strategy, collaboration and capability development.

To be successful in this role, you will have excellent relationship-building skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

You will be adaptable, outcomes-focused and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.

Experience in community engagement is essential, and experience working with First Nations peoples is highly regarded.
