Broken Hill Mines is seeking an experienced Production Drill Operator - Underground Mining to join our operations team at our Broken Hill NSW facility. This is a full-time position based on-site in Broken Hill, NSW. In this role, you will be responsible for operating drilling equipment in underground mining environments, playing a critical part in our production operations. You will be working as part of a skilled team to ensure efficient extraction of mineral resources whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
Key responsibilities:
- Operate underground drilling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with operational procedures and site-specific requirements.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and maintenance checks on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Prepare drilling sites and set up equipment according to operational specifications and geological requirements.
- Monitor drilling operations and collect data relating to hole depth, grade and other relevant parameters.
- Communicate effectively with underground crew members and shift supervisors to coordinate drilling activities.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and report maintenance issues to the maintenance team.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, standard operating procedures and site-specific instructions.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, production data and equipment maintenance activities.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture by identifying potential hazards and reporting near-misses.
- Participate in toolbox meetings and ongoing training to maintain competency and awareness.
What we're looking for:
- Current certification as a competent Underground Production Drill Operator or equivalent qualification in drilling operations.
- Proven experience operating underground drilling equipment in a mining environment (minimum 2 years preferred).
- Strong understanding of mining safety regulations, particularly those applicable to underground operations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate operational records.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in confined spaces and challenging underground conditions.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with different drilling methodologies and equipment types is advantageous.
