Bothar Boring and Tunnelling – Brisbane QLD

Competitive base salary + super + company vehicle

Full-time | Brisbane, QLD

Build your career in a specialist area of civil construction. Looking for something a little different from traditional civil construction? Bothar is a specialist civil infrastructure contractor and one of Australia’s leading names in trenchless construction, microtunnelling, and associated civil works. With a growing pipeline of work across Queensland, we’re looking for a Project Engineer to join our Brisbane-based team.

About the Role

You’ll work closely with our State Manager, site teams, subcontractors and clients to plan, coordinate and deliver a range of civil and infrastructure projects. You’ll take ownership of smaller projects while working alongside Project Managers on larger, more complex projects. This is a hands‑on role with responsibility across both the engineering and commercial sides of project delivery. You’ll have the opportunity to manage projects from planning through to completion, while developing your experience in specialised construction methods.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of project delivery, including independently managing smaller projects and contributing to the delivery of larger projects
  • Managing day‑to‑day engineering and construction activities across civil and infrastructure projects
  • Developing and managing project plans, programs, construction methodologies and sequencing
  • Preparing and maintaining project documentation, including SWMS, ITPs, permits, reports and engineering records
  • Managing subcontractors, suppliers and site activities
  • Managing project procurement, subcontractor scopes, and contributing to tendering and estimating activities
  • Managing and reporting on project progress, costs, quality and key milestones
  • Preparing and managing progress claims, variations, contractual correspondence and other commercial activities
  • Working with clients, major contractors, councils and other stakeholders
  • Identifying and resolving technical and construction challenges
  • Coordinating works around existing services, traffic and other site constraints
  • Ensuring project activities meet safety, quality, environmental and contractual requirements

What We’re Looking For

We’re interested in hearing from Project Engineers with a strong foundation in civil construction. You don’t need to tick every box. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • A degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 4 years’ experience in civil construction or infrastructure project delivery
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction activities, subcontractors and site teams
  • An understanding of project documentation, quality requirements and construction processes
  • Experience managing project costs, preparing progress claims and variations, and maintaining commercial documentation
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients, contractors and other stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills
  • A practical, adaptable approach and willingness to take ownership

Experience that would be highly regarded, but isn’t essential:

  • Water, wastewater or sewer infrastructure
  • Pipelines, utility relocations, shafts or trenchless construction
  • Projects involving live traffic, existing services or constrained urban environments

If your experience is primarily in roads, drainage, earthworks, utilities or broader civil construction, we’d still encourage you to apply.

Why Join Bothar?

  • Competitive package: Competitive base salary + super + company vehicle
  • Specialist experience: Develop your knowledge of microtunnelling and trenchless construction
  • Interesting projects: Work across a variety of civil and underground infrastructure projects
  • Career development: Build your technical, commercial and project delivery skills, with opportunities to progress into more senior project management roles
  • Experienced team: Work alongside people with extensive civil and trenchless construction experience
  • Permanent position: Join our Brisbane‑based team in a full‑time role
