Our Western Port Manufacturing facility is looking for a Chemist (Shift Relief) in our Testing Services team based in Hastings. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products Portfolio, we have four major manufacturing sites at Western Port which operate 24 x 7 and deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to export and domestic customers.
In this action-oriented role, you’ll work with our high-quality products, such as COLORBOND® steel. Utilising your technical knowledge with a curiosity of the “what” and “why” things happen, you’ll work hands-on with our production teams to provide the best quality outcomes. Working in our high performing laboratory, you will provide chemical analysis of our products, processes and environmental samples. You will predominantly work Monday to Friday 8-hour days but also provide relief to the Shift Chemist position as required, this role requires flexibility when working a relief role. Located in Hastings, Victoria, you will have availability to work 12-hour shifts (including weekends and public holidays).

What Will You Do?
Working collaboratively with the team whilst growing your knowledge and skills, you’ll support the team through shift relief and hands-on analytical testing. You will also:
- Successfully contribute to a safe working environment
- Ensure the quality analysis, evaluation, and manipulation of data
- Utilise a range of different techniques and adapt existing processes to help understand the root causes of production issues
- Ensure all testing methodology and routine maintenance is performed to our laboratory standards and Laboratory Quality Systems
- Take any necessary corrective actions
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve and streamline our procedures or testing
More About You
With your analytical and high attention to detail, you will combine your hands-on laboratory experience and your ability to analyse and interpret technical data. You will also bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Chemistry or related discipline
- The flexibility to move from a day-time role to a shift relief role
- Extensive experience working within a laboratory environment
- Comfort with general lifting requirements in a production environment
- The ability to work independently while contributing to the greater team’s success
