Black Bay is a specialist litigation firm acting in commercial disputes, employment law and defamation matters for ASX-listed companies, founders, boards and high-profile individuals.

We were named Boutique Law Firm of the Year 2024 and again in 2026.

We're hiring a Paralegal or Graduate Lawyer to work directly alongside our Partners and Special Counsel across all three practice areas.

What makes this role different

At most firms, junior lawyers spend their first years buried in document review and admin.

At Black Bay, you'll be in the room - sitting in on strategy calls, attending mediations, drafting submissions that go to court, and working directly with clients from day one.

Our size means you won't be siloed into one practice area.

You'll rotate across employment, commercial litigation and defamation matters, building a broader skill set faster than you would at a larger firm.

  • What you'll actually do
  • Draft court documents, correspondence and legal memoranda with real supervision and feedback β€” not just track changes
  • Conduct legal research that directly shapes case strategy
  • Help prepare briefs, evidence and hearing materials for Fair Work, Federal Court and Supreme Court proceedings
  • Sit in on client meetings, mediations and conferences with counsel
  • Manage file organisation, court deadlines and case administration
  • Work across employment disputes, shareholder and contractual litigation, and defamation claims

What we're looking for

  • Completing or recently completed a law degree, with strong academic results
  • Genuine interest in litigation - you want to be in court
  • Sharp attention to detail and strong legal writing
  • Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable asking questions
  • Prior paralegal or clerk experience is a must.
  • What you get
  • Direct mentoring from Partners and Special Counsel, not just other juniors
  • A structured development pathway - we'll map out your progression from paralegal to admitted lawyer to associate
  • Exposure to high-profile, complex matters that most graduates don't see for years
  • A firm that's scaling fast, which means opportunities open up quickly for people who perform
