This is a new position and a seat on the Executive Leadership Team. You'll report to the Director and work day to day with the General Managers. Your job is to turn development, performance and engagement from ad hoc conversations into a consistent, measurable system.
Key responsibilities:
- Design clear career pathways for apprentices, technicians, estimators and project managers, hold a development plan for every employee and run succession planning for key roles.
- Set role KPIs with the General Managers that link to business targets, run the review cycle and coach managers to handle performance issues early.
- Design and administer bonus schemes, run the annual salary review and benchmark pay against the market.
- Run end-to-end hiring for office, project, field and apprentice roles and build a pipeline for hard-to-fill trades and professional roles.
- Own the training matrix and expiry tracking for licences, tickets and accreditations.
- Run engagement surveys, recognition and team events, and be a visible, approachable presence in the office and on site.
- Manage grievances, investigations, performance and disciplinary processes under the Fair Work Act and relevant awards.
- Keep policies, records and people reporting accurate and current.
About you:
- 5+ years in a generalist HR or people and culture role, ideally in construction, trades, engineering services or another project-based business.
- Solid working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, NES, modern awards and NSW WHS obligations, including psychosocial hazards.
- Experience managing employee relations matters end to end: investigations, performance management, disciplinary processes and terminations.
- Experience recruiting for both trade and professional roles.
- Experience designing or running performance, KPI and incentive frameworks.
- Equally credible with tradespeople on site and senior leaders in the office.
- Organised and systems-minded, with strong Microsoft 365 and HRIS skills.
- A current driver's licence and a willingness to get out to sites.
- A genuine leadership role with real influence on how the business grows.
- The chance to build the people function from the ground up, not inherit someone else's system.
- A practical, down-to-earth team across the office and the field.
- A competitive salary package plus super.
