A leading Tier 2 builder needs an experienced Structural Foreman to run the structure phase of a major mixed-use project in Brisbane, covering Class 2 residential and Class 3 hotel. This is a permanent role reporting to the Project Manager. You'll work closely with the Site Manager, Project Engineer, Design Manager and the wider project team.
The role suits a foreman who runs a tight, safe, well-programmed site and takes pride in handing a clean structure over to the fitout teams.
Direct and coordinate all structural activities: deep excavation, piling, retention systems, formwork, jump forms and perimeter safety screens
Supervise the placement, finishing and curing of concrete on large post-tensioned slabs and suspended decks
Oversee installation of precast panels, core walls and structural steel
Read and interpret architectural, structural and shop drawings to prevent discrepancies on site
Understand the scope of works and the head contract obligations
Coordinate deliveries of concrete, reo and precast, and manage heavy plant including tower cranes and mobile cranes
Programming and coordination
Prepare accurate 2-week and 4-week programs and look-aheads
Schedule structural subcontractors and hold them to program and quality baselines
Run daily pre-starts and assign tasks to direct labour and trade teams
Report schedule variations to the Site Manager and Project Engineer
Coordinate project meetings, keep records and follow up actions
Keep daily site diaries in Hammertech, recording labour, weather, deliveries and milestones
Quality
Carry out structural QA and manage sign-offs for reo, formwork and PT before pours
Verify fully stressed certificates for rock anchors and post-tensioning
Keep VisiBuild current and ensure subcontractors comply
Inspect works against architectural specifications, contract specifications and planning requirements, and advise the Construction Director on compliance
Resolve design issues on site, with engineering input where needed
Identify and fix structural defects early to avoid delays in fitout
Assess and record contractor performance and competency
Manage dust, waste, stormwater and traffic
Safety
Take overall responsibility for health and safety on the project
Enforce the builder's Mandatory Safety Rules and a strict Tier 2 safety culture, including reviewing and following SWMS
Apply disciplinary procedures for non-compliance
Report notifiable events to the regulator within the prescribed timeframes
Chair Safety Committee meetings and undertake monthly safety inspections
Maintain site security, fencing, hoarding, cleanliness, hygiene and the presentation of everyone on site
Contribute to issue resolution, non-conformance prevention and continuous improvement
What you'll bring
10+ years of structural foreman experience on similar projects and clients, covering structural works, civil works and mixed-use residential, ideally on Class 2 or 3 D&C projects
A carpentry trade, Diploma of Building and Construction, or Construction Management degree
A QBCC Open Builder licence and Site Supervisor licence
A good understanding of Class 2 buildings, the NCC and Australian Standards
Experience with Aconex, Hammertech, VisiBuild, Excel, MS Project and Premier ERP
A professional presence, clear communication, transparency and strong leadership
