Berry Sweet is a well-established and growing horticultural business, producing premium strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries across our operations in Bullsbrook and Pemberton.
We are seeking an experienced, practical and approachable People & Culture and WHS Manager to oversee our human resources, employee relations, workplace health and safety, and employment compliance functions.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is an opportunity to make a genuine difference within a successful agricultural business.
About the Role
Based at our Bullsbrook operation, you will work closely with our senior management team, farm managers, supervisors and Workforce Manager.
Occasional travel to our Pemberton operation will be required to provide on-site HR and WHS support, work collaboratively with the local management team, and assist with employee relations, training, compliance and other operational requirements.
This is a varied, hands-on role with responsibility for:
People & Culture
Managing day-to-day HR operations, employee relations and employment compliance.
Providing practical HR advice and support to managers and supervisors.
Coordinating recruitment, onboarding, employment contracts and inductions.
Managing performance, disciplinary processes and workplace matters.
Developing and improving HR policies, procedures and systems.
Ensuring compliance with Fair Work legislation, Modern Awards and employment obligations.
Workplace Health & Safety
Taking a proactive role in managing and improving WHS systems across our operations.
Working with farm managers and supervisors to identify hazards, assess risks and implement practical safety improvements.
Coordinating incident reporting, investigations and corrective actions.
Maintaining WHS documentation, training records and compliance requirements.
Conducting workplace inspections and supporting safety audits.
Promoting a positive, practical and accountable safety culture.
Workforce & Compliance
Supporting the administration and compliance of labour hire arrangements.
Assisting with the development and ongoing management of Berry Sweet's Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme.
Supporting employee welfare and accommodation compliance.
Working alongside our Finance and Payroll team to maintain accurate employee records and provide payroll support when required.
Supporting workforce planning, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
We are looking for someone who is experienced, approachable, organised and comfortable working in a busy operational environment.
The successful candidate will bring:
Proven experience in a generalist HR, People & Culture or HR management position.
Practical experience managing workplace health and safety responsibilities.
Strong working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work requirements and Modern Awards.
Confidence managing employee relations, performance and workplace issues.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of a business.
A proactive, solutions-focused approach and willingness to take ownership of responsibilities.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and sound judgement.
The ability to balance employee wellbeing with operational and commercial requirements.
A willingness to be hands-on, work collaboratively and support the wider business.
A current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to Pemberton when required.
Experience in agriculture, horticulture, food production or another operational industry would be highly regarded.
Experience with seasonal workforces, labour hire, the PALM Scheme or employee accommodation would also be advantageous.
