Head, Finance and Corporate Services | Common Equity NSW

Common Equity NSW is a not-for-profit company and registered Community Housing Provider working with 31 community housing co-operatives across NSW, together managing more than 500 dwellings in metropolitan and regional communities.

As momentum builds for co-operative housing and new projects come online, Common Equity is focused on strengthening its systems, supporting sustainable growth and delivering positive outcomes for members and communities.

The Role & Key Deliverables

Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the senior leadership team, the Head of Finance and Corporate Services leads finance, technology, data, people and culture, risk, compliance and governance functions. This is a broad leadership role at the centre of the organisation, combining strategic leadership with a hands-on approach to ensuring the organisation's frameworks, systems and processes remain robust and fit for purpose. Current strategic priorities include:

  • Developing financial and growth modelling to support future housing opportunities
  • Implementing AI and data governance frameworks
  • Building on established risk, compliance and governance practices
  • Supporting a high-performing and engaged organisational culture

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a qualified finance leader who brings an enterprise-wide perspective and understands how finance, risk, technology, data, governance and people practices work together to support organisational performance. You will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and professional accounting qualification with finance leadership experience, ideally with exposure to broader corporate services functions
  • Strong financial management, forecasting, modelling and governance capability
  • A collaborative leadership style with the judgement and credibility to partner effectively with a Board, CEO and senior leaders
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with regulators, funders, suppliers or other external partners

Just as important will be your ability to work within a co-operative environment. You will understand that strong outcomes are built through consultation, partnership and respect for the independence of member co-operatives. A genuine commitment to Common Equity’s purpose and the co-operative housing model is essential.

Location and Work Model

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Sydney with a hybrid work model, including two days per week in the CBD office. Board and committee meetings are held in person on Tuesday evenings on a rotating monthly basis.

Please note that verbal references, psychometric assessment and probity checks will form part of the appointment process.
