Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute – Melbourne VIC

Since 1926, the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute has been at the centre of some of the world's most significant breakthroughs in heart and diabetes research. As Australia's only independent medical research institute dedicated solely to these conditions, we've spent nearly a century turning discovery science into real-world change.

Heart disease remains a leading cause of death in Australia. Diabetes is the fastest-growing chronic condition in the country. The problem still exists — and that's exactly what drives us.

Our scientists, clinicians, public health experts, diabetes educators, and dietitians work together every day with one shared purpose: to help people live healthier for longer. If you want to be part of that work, read on.

Position overview

The Clinical Imaging Cardiologist is responsible for supporting routine cardiac services, including echocardiography and cardiac MRI reporting for clinical and research studies. The role involves interaction with patients and research participants, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, meeting clinical reporting deadlines, and working both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality clinical care.

About this role

The Clinical Imaging Cardiologist is responsible for providing specialist cardiac imaging reporting and clinical expertise to support research and clinical services at the Baker Institute. The role involves interpreting cardiac imaging studies, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring high standards of clinical care for patients and research participants.

Our team

The Cardiometabolic Imaging Laboratory in conjunction with the imaging core use imaging techniques to identify the risk of developing various cardiac diseases, including heart failure and coronary disease. Much of our work is undertaken in community settings with a focus on higher risk individuals. Our work is based on a rich clinical experience and seeks to provide data and resources to optimise cardiovascular disease management in community and clinical settings. We collaborate with eminent clinicians nationally and internationally.
