Axiom is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to provide broad legal support across commercial, corporate and operational matters within a modular construction business. This highly collaborative role partners closely with project and commercial stakeholders to provide pragmatic advice, draft and negotiate client and supplier contracts, assess project and tender risks, and support construction disputes and litigation. The position also advises on regulatory and compliance matters, insurance and legislative change, while contributing to legal training and continuous improvement across the business. The role is offered initially on a 6-month contract, with a high likelihood of extension or transition to a permanent position. Based in Brisbane, the role offers three days in the office and free onsite parking.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely, commercially focused legal advice across commercial, corporate and operational matters, including contracts, property, employment, IP, PPSA, competition and consumer law.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of client, supplier and construction contracts, including supporting commercial negotiations with key stakeholders.
  • Assess legal and commercial risks associated with new projects, tenders and contractual arrangements, providing practical recommendations aligned with business objectives.
  • Advise on construction disputes, litigation and dispute resolution matters, including liaison with external counsel, clients, suppliers and public authorities.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, advise the business on their impact, and support compliance, insurance, claims and legal training initiatives.
  • Partner closely with the Deputy General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel and broader business to manage competing priorities, improve legal processes and ensure consistent, high-quality legal support.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years’ PAE as a commercial or construction lawyer, gained in a well-regarded law firm or in-house environment.
  • Admitted to practice in Queensland, or eligible for immediate admission, with strong experience across commercial contracts and contract management.
  • Experience with front-end and back-end construction matters, including construction disputes and litigation; exposure to construction, engineering, mining or infrastructure is highly regarded.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice.

Compensation, Benefits & Location:

This role offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package in the alternative legal services marketplace, that includes health benefits, pension and more. Axiomites also get access to professional development resources and learning and development programs. Axiomites predominately work remotely, with the exception that some clients require on-site presence.
