The Australian Institute of Marine Science is Australia’s tropical marine research agency. We are a trusted advisor, a partner and employer of choice, and we value integrity, innovation, collaboration and respect. AIMS’ research of Australia’s tropical marine ecosystems guides their effective environmental management and contributes to our understanding of similar ecosystems around the world.

Our research seeks to deliver practical benefit to all Australians and supports the sustainable use of our tropical marine estate. Governments, reef managers, industry and the wider community look to our high-quality, long-term research for informed decisions about our iconic Great Barrier Reef, North-West Shelf, and Arafura and Timor Seas. AIMS expert teams at our locations in Townsville, Darwin and Perth have access to world-class infrastructure, unique datasets, cutting-edge laboratories, and a fleet of modern research vessels.

Join the Australian Institute of Marine Science’s Technology Transformation Engineering team as a Project Software Engineer, where you will play a key role in advancing the innovative ReefScan program and supporting critical reef monitoring outcomes. Working across ReefScan Surface and ReefScan Deep platforms, you will contribute to the development of end-to-end software and data processing workflows, from data capture in the field through to onboard AI-driven analysis and integration with the ReefCloud data visualisation system.

This hands-on role combines software engineering, systems integration and collaborative problem-solving to design, build, test and support robust technologies that operate in complex marine environments. You will work closely with researchers, engineers and stakeholders to deliver fit for purpose solutions, develop mobile and desktop applications, support engineering certification activities and participate in field testing, including work at sea and on small vessels. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise to cutting-edge marine technology that helps protect and monitor Australia's iconic reef ecosystems.
