Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centres & Mission-Critical Projects
Employment Type: Full Time
Salary: $145k - $170k Base
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a project delivery team working on data centre and other mission-critical infrastructure projects.
You will coordinate multidisciplinary building services design from early contractor involvement through construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring designs are compliant, cost-effective and constructable.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate electrical design activities throughout ECI and Design & Construct (D&C) project stages.Review electrical designs for technical compliance, constructability, maintainability and cost efficiency.
- Assess data centre electrical requirements, including power distribution, redundancy configurations , load calculations, fault level studies and protection coordination.
- Coordinate electrical services through 3D models and multidisciplinary design workshops.
- Manage design queries, RFIs, design issue registers and technical deviations.
- Identify value engineering opportunities to optimise equipment selection, installation methodologies and project costs.
- Collaborate with consultants, subcontractors, procurement and construction teams to resolve technical issues.
- Support electrical equipment procurement, including long-lead equipment, delivery planning and installation coordination.
- Assist with construction sequencing, quality assurance, commissioning and integrated systems testing.
- Review as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and commissioning documentation to support project handover.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.Minimum five years' experience in electrical design, design coordination or commissioning.
- Experience in data centres, hospitals, defence, critical infrastructure or large-scale commercial projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical design and delivery within a Design & Construct environment.
- Knowledge of power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, protection systems and electrical redundancy.
- Experience reviewing technical designs, managing RFIs and coordinating with consultants and subcontractors.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving and organisational skills.
