With approximately 4000 members across corporate and individual categories, FMA advocates for an industry that employs more than 200,000 people and contributes over $32 billion to Australia's GDP each year. We are seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer to lead the Association into its next chapter.

Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for strategy, advocacy, membership growth, and the overall performance of a lean, high-impact organisation.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected industry association at the intersection of commercial operations, professional standards, and government advocacy. You will be the public face of the facilities management association, driving influence with decision-makers while ensuring the Association delivers tangible value to its members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the Association's strategic plan in partnership with the Board
  • Drive advocacy and government relations to strengthen the industry's voice in policy and regulation
  • Oversee financial management, budgeting, and sustainable revenue growth
  • Grow and retain membership across both individual and corporate categories
  • Lead a small, high-performing team and foster a culture of excellence
  • Deliver professional development, education, and competency standards for the profession
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry leaders, sponsors, and international partners
  • Represent FMA at industry events, media engagements and stakeholder forums

About You

You are a dynamic, impactful and caring senior executive with a proven track record of leading organisations or significant business units. Ideally you may bring relevant experience from an industry association, not-for-profit, or professional membership body, combined with strong commercial acumen.

You will have:

  • Demonstrated success in advocacy, government relations, or stakeholder influence
  • Experience managing budgets and driving sustainable revenue
  • Excellent Board and stakeholder management skills
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance mission and commercial outcomes
  • Strong understanding of the facilities management sector (or transferable industry leadership experience)
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline

Why Join FMA

  • Lead the peak body for a critical and growing national industry
  • Influence policy and shape professional standards at a national level
  • Work closely with a committed Board and engaged membership base
