This is a hands-on role suited to someone who understands heavy industry, mining and project-based work and is comfortable managing people, equipment, transport, clients and contractors in a fast-moving environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating and delivering a range of QMR projects across Queensland and potentially interstate. Projects may involve:

  • Mining scrap recovery and removal
  • Large-scale steel cutting and processing
  • Demolition and dismantling works
  • Heavy industrial recovery projects
  • Mining equipment and infrastructure dismantling
  • Oxy/LPG cutting operations
  • Loading and transport of scrap materials
  • Shutdown and project-based works
  • Large-scale off-site metal recovery projects

You will work closely with QMR's management and operations teams to ensure projects are properly planned, resourced and delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop project schedules, work programs, and mobilisation plans
  • Coordinate labour, subcontractors, plant, equipment, and transport
  • Liaise directly with clients, site representatives, and contractors
  • Coordinate site access, inductions, and client onboarding requirements
  • Ensure project-specific documentation and SWMS/JSA requirements are in place
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, and costs
  • Coordinate transport requirements including trucks, floats, road trains, and other specialised transport
  • Plan and coordinate heavy equipment including material handlers, excavators, forklifts, cranes, and cutting equipment
  • Manage daily site activities and resolve operational issues as they arise
  • Coordinate QMR personnel and subcontractors on site
  • Maintain regular communication with management regarding project progress
  • Identify potential delays, risks, and additional project requirements
  • Assist with variations, additional works, and client requests
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with agreed scope and commercial requirements
  • Maintain accurate project records, timesheets, dockets, and supporting documentation
  • Complete project close-out and handover requirements
  • Ensure QMR's safety, environmental and quality requirements are maintained throughout the project

THE RIGHT PERSON

We are looking for someone who is practical, organised and commercially minded. You will need to be comfortable spending time on site, walking through a work area, talking to operators and tradespeople, coordinating equipment, and making decisions when things don't go exactly to plan.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience managing projects within the mining, resources, heavy industrial, demolition, civil or similar sectors
  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment and site-based operations
  • Experience coordinating labour, plant, transport, and subcontractors
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and client management skills
  • Ability to read and understand project scopes and work requirements
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills
