ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear‑powered submarines, the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is meaningful and supports Australia’s national security. At ASC, you will find purposeful roles, opportunities to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC offers a deeper purpose you can be proud of.

About the Opportunity

As a Security Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring ASC’s sites operate in full compliance with Commonwealth and corporate security requirements. This role will deliver protective security services across physical, governance, and information security domains.

This role requires a strong understanding of the defence security environment and the ability to provide clear, practical advice across a complex and highly regulated organisation.

We anticipate this role to commence early 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver security advice and oversight in line with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
  • Maintain governance and compliance across physical, personnel, information, and cyber security domains.
  • Identify, assess, and manage security risks, including completion of complex Security Risk Assessments.
  • Manage and respond to security incidents within Defence‑mandated timeframes.
  • Provide expert guidance on classified material handling, access control, and facility accreditation.
  • Liaise with external agencies including AGSVA, Defence Security stakeholders, and other government bodies.
  • Develop and deliver security briefings, awareness sessions, and training activities.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying gaps, implementing controls, and strengthening security culture.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience in a security role within Defence, Government, Intelligence, or a comparable security-regulated environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of the DSPF and PSPF, with the ability to apply these requirements in an operational environment.
  • Experience managing security clearances and security governance activities, including assurance, compliance, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and the provision of security advice.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate security risks while balancing operational and business requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex security requirements into practical advice for a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to build relationships and influence outcomes across all levels of an organisation.
  • Qualifications in Security, Risk Management or a related discipline are desirable. Candidates currently undertaking relevant studies will also be considered

We welcome applications from candidates seeking a four-day week arrangement, particularly those currently completing further study. While the role is ideally full-time, we are open to discussing part‑time options for candidates who closely align with the requirements of the position.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
