The School

Since 1921, Pinjarra Senior High School (SHS) has proudly served the community of Pinjarra and its surrounding region. The school provides a blend of traditional and innovative programs designed to prepare students from Year 7 to 12 for higher education, vocational training and employment.

At Pinjarra SHS, we are committed to developing a learning culture wherein all members of our school community are empowered to grow through being innovative, connected and resilient. We seek to foster and develop Growth Mindsets in our staff and students through targeted pedagogy and professional learning, with a clear focus on quality teaching and learning strategies to facilitate purposeful engagement for all students. This approach underpins our instructional model and forms part of the overall strategy to develop confidence and agency in our students during their secondary school years, captured in our school vision, ‘Growing Learners for Life’.

To create a safe and supported learning environment, we expect all teaching staff to be trained in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS), Instructional Strategies for Engagement (ISE), and Peer Observation and Feedback. We are a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school that promotes Tolerance, Respect, Unity and Embracing Opportunities as our core values. Positive behaviour is modelled by staff and expected of all students. Collectively, we act to enhance wellbeing and safety for everyone in our school community.

Find out more about our school by visiting Pinjarra Senior High School or Schools Online.

The Role

As a Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Teacher at Pinjarra SHS, you will join our collaborative, experienced team to develop, review and deliver the HASS curriculum across Years 7 to 10 as well as Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Geography and/or General Business and Enterprise in Years 11 and 12. Our HASS team also leads the school in delivering the Languages curriculum (AUSLAN) as well as a Year 10 Elective in Innovation and Enterprise. Ability to teach in a second learning area, particularly English, would be desirable but this is not required.

Pinjarra SHS is a unique school that combines the best of all worlds: big enough to offer a range of courses, pathways and bespoke learning opportunities to our students, but small enough for people to know each other well. Strong connections between colleagues across the school is a key strength that supports our vigorous learning culture, where staff and students alike are focussed on their growth and progress. Our students are developing their skills for learning and our staff are continuously exploring creative, impactful teaching strategies to support the growth of academic capacity, confidence and accountability. We don’t just talk about innovative pedagogy – it defines our shared practice – enabling us to build an effective learning culture and develop our individual and collective capacity to make a difference in the lives of all students.

We are seeking a teacher who excels in engaging and motivating students through creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. The successful applicant should display strong professional knowledge of effective instructional practices to challenge students and enrich learning experiences. The ability to support individual student progress is important, forming strong relationships with students, colleagues, parents/caregivers and the school community.
