Approved Fire Gear (AFG) is looking for a motivated, reliable and customer-focused Portable Fire Equipment Service Technician to join our growing team.
Based from our East Maitland office, this is a hands‑on, field‑based role servicing customers throughout the Hunter, Newcastle and Central Coast regions.
Established in 1980, AFG is a proudly family‑owned Australian business with more than 45 years of experience in the fire protection industry. We pride ourselves on delivering quality service, building lasting customer relationships and providing practical fire safety solutions.
About the Role
Working from our East Maitland office, you will attend a variety of commercial and industrial customer sites across the region.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting, testing, servicing and maintaining portable fire equipment.
- Servicing fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets.
- Identifying and reporting equipment defects and compliance issues.
- Completing service reports and compliance documentation.
- Managing daily service schedules and attending customer sites.
- Providing professional and friendly customer service.
- Maintaining a safe, organised and professional work environment.
About You

You will ideally have:
- A reliable, positive and professional attitude.
- Good mechanical aptitude and practical problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing or higher is desirable but not essential.
- Previous experience in the fire protection industry is advantageous.
- Candidates new to the industry are encouraged to apply.
- Current driver's licence is essential.
- Training and development opportunities will be provided to the right candidate.
