In this newly created role ARH Canberra is seeking a Hospital Coordinator.

This innovative and high-impact position reports directly to senior hospital management and plays a critical role in driving hospital-wide success.

You'll be responsible for managing our support staff teams, shaping care delivery, and ensuring exceptional outcomes for patients and staff alike.

Your Role as Hospital Coordinator

This new role in our hospital team will hold overall responsibility and authority for the Animal Attendant and Hospital Support Staff cohorts across the hospital.

This role provides frontline leadership, oversight of hospital flow, and acts as the central point for daily operational problem-solving.

This role is central to ensuring the hospital runs safely, smoothly, and consistently while supporting clinicians and nurses to focus on clinical care.

Key Responsibilities in this role

  • Hospital Operations & Workflow
  • Oversee daily hospital flow, including patient movement, admissions, discharges, and general treatment coordination.
  • Ensure the hospital is clean, organised, stocked, and operating efficiently across all clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Identify bottlenecks, allocate support staff, and manage on-the-day adjustments to maintain smooth operations.
  • Provide real-time support during peak periods, emergencies, or unexpected surges.
  • Leadership & Staff Coordination
  • Provide day-to-day direction and support to Animal Attendants, hospital support roles, and junior staff.
  • Build a collaborative and positive team culture across hospital operations.
  • Deliver onboarding, induction, and competency checklists for support staff.
  • Coordinate rosters for AAs and non-clinical support teams.
  • Support the Nursing Manager by ensuring clinical staff have the resources, workflow, and environment needed to deliver care.
  • Client Experience & Operational Support
  • Assist with managing client expectations during busy periods, delays, or complex cases.
  • Provide clear, professional updates to clients when required.
  • Support reception and clinical staff by addressing service bottlenecks that impact client flow.
  • Assist with daily inventory oversight.
  • Support the Hospital Manager with small operational projects, efficiencies, or site improvements.

About You

You're a confident, collaborative leader with a strong background in clinical and team management.

You thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about delivering consistent, high-quality care.

  • Veterinary nursing qualifications or similar.
  • Experience in hospital leadership, ward coordination, or team supervision.
  • Exposure to emergency/critical care environments desirable.
  • Strong organisational, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead small teams and give clear instructions.
  • High emotional intelligence, calm under pressure, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication with staff, clients, and clinicians.
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of hospital operations (lifting, cleaning, patient support).

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary + generous leave entitlements
  • Support and access to ongoing education, leadership training, and career opportunities
  • Paid parental leave (6 weeks) and flexible return-to-work options
  • Free annual flu vaccinations and 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (Life Works)
  • Discounts for your pets across Petbarn stores and Greencross clinics
