About Aviva (formerly known as Alta-1 College QLD)

Aviva College is a relational learning community for young people whose education has become interrupted, complex or uncertain. Our purpose is to journey alongside young people, creating places of belonging and safety, where every student’s inherent worth is affirmed, their growth is nurtured, and they are supported to discover a future filled with purpose and possibility. At Aviva, our learning communities bring together education, personal growth, recovery and community, creating spaces where young people can belong, engage with learning and take meaningful steps forward. The values of the College move from our understandings of the inherent worth of every young person to assisting their establishment as people of purpose and contribution. As a Christian organisation faith is central to who we are. The College has a well-developed Christian Identity Framework that positively informs the work of the College.

Child Safe Statement

Aviva College is committed to providing a child-safe environment which safeguards all students and is committed to promoting practices which provide safety, wellbeing and welfare of our children and young people.

The Opportunity

Aviva College is currently growing in response to the increasing need for quality education alternatives for young people who are at-risk of educational disengagement and negative life outcomes. This season of growth is both exciting and challenging and staff joining the college will need to carry a genuine heart for at-risk young people, a willingness to work closely with others in team and a capacity to navigate change flexibly. While there are dynamic elements to our current season the college operates from a strong base of a decade of operation and has a consistent, passionate and community-minded staff team.

The college will employ a dedicated Youth Worker under a Maternity Leave Fixed-term Contract for our Middle School program based at Morayfield. This represents an exciting opportunity in the college and a positive development in our overall student wellbeing structure. Youth Workers report directly to campus/program leaders but will also function as members of the broader Student Services Team (which includes counsellors and a Guidance Officer). Youth Workers will become the first point of contact and tier of wellbeing intervention for presenting student needs on each location. Those with a minimum Cert IV in Youth Work & Chaplaincy (or equivalent qualification) are encouraged to apply. Experience in working with at-risk youth will be advantageous.

Role Purpose & Key Responsibilities

  • The Youth Worker provides holistic wellbeing support to students who have disengaged, or are at risk of disengaging, from mainstream education.
  • Working as a member of the College’s Student Services Team, the Youth Worker supports young people to re-engage in education, overcome personal barriers, and develop resilience through practical, emotional, and relational interventions.
  • Campus/Program and Student Services Team membership – collaborative, multi-disciplinary contribution.
  • Student Support & Case Work – individual and group programs tailored to student needs.
  • Critical incident response – support during and after crisis situations.
  • Reporting and recording – professional management of student data and case notes.
  • Professional practice – reflective, ethical, and compliant engagement.

The role requires professional integrity, effective communication, and a commitment to both student transformation and excellence in wellbeing support provision.

Essential (applicable to all college staff):

  • Commitment to Christian faith, college values and the highest standards of professional conduct.
  • Passionate about supporting at-risk and vulnerable young people towards positive growth and change.
  • Experience supporting at-risk and disengaged young people (including facilitating small group programs).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with at-risk young people.
  • Organisational skills, including accurate record-keeping and reporting.

Highly desirable:

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • To hold a minimum Certificate IV or higher in Youth Work, Community Services, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Holder of a valid driver license.

Applications are due no later than 9:00am Monday 9th November, 2026. N.B. the College reserves the right to appoint this position prior to the closing date for applications listed above.
