Veterinarian Full-Time | Permanent or 6-Month Contract | Northern Beaches, Sydney

At Allambie Vet, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional patient care, fostering a genuinely supportive team culture, and continually improving our hospital and the way we practise.

As a well-established, independently owned small animal hospital on Sydney's Northern Beaches, we're looking for an experienced veterinarian to join our close-knit team.

A new opportunity has opened within our veterinary team, with one of our long-standing veterinarians taking six months away from the practice to travel.

Ideally, we're looking for someone to join us from December 2026 or start of January 2027, initially on a six-month contract, with a strong possibility of ongoing employment.

But we're not limiting our search to someone looking for a six-month role.

If you're looking for a permanent position from the outset, we'd absolutely like to hear from you too. Likewise, if six months suits where you are in your career right now, we'd be very happy to explore that.

For us, finding an experienced veterinarian who is the right fit for our hospital, clients and team matters more than fitting someone into a particular contract.

This is more than just a job. It's an opportunity to practise high-quality medicine and surgery, supported by a collaborative and experienced team, in a progressive, well-equipped hospital that values clinical excellence, growth and sustainability.

Whether you're looking for a six-month opportunity while you consider your next step, relocating to Sydney and wanting somewhere great to land, or searching for a practice where you could see yourself building a long-term career, we'd love to hear from you.

Love consulting, medicine, surgery or a mix of all three?

We're flexible and happy to tailor the role around your strengths and interests.

Client relationships matter here

Many of our clients have been with us for years. They value trust, clear communication and feeling genuinely heard when it comes to their pet's care.

This role suits a veterinarian who enjoys building meaningful relationships with clients and patients supporting thoughtful care over time and being part of each pet's journey throughout life.

A varied caseload

We're a busy, well-established hospital with a wide and interesting caseload, keeping each day engaging and rewarding.

While we see a high volume of cases, we're intentional about allowing the time needed to provide thoughtful, thorough care supporting good clinical decision-making, proper case workups and strong client communication.

Our hospital & how we work

We believe great medicine and surgery start with the right environment and the right team.

You’ll be supported by:

  • Full in-house IDEXX diagnostics
  • Advanced anaesthesia with ventilators
  • Digital radiography
  • IM3 dental equipment with dental radiography
  • High-quality ultrasound
  • Orthopaedic equipment, including TPLO surgery
  • Newly built dedicated cat hospital
  • Visiting specialists for additional case support

Just as importantly, you'll work alongside a highly experienced, autonomous nursing team who are deeply involved in patient care, anaesthesia, procedures, hospital flow and client communication, allowing you to focus on practising good medicine and surgery, not doing everything yourself.

Team culture

We're a genuinely close team that enjoys coming to work and looks out for each other.

You’ll be joining an experienced veterinary team and a highly capable nursing crew, with strong support for case discussion and second opinions.

Our vets bring a wide mix of experience and interests, and we regularly share cases while continuing to evolve how we practise.

If you enjoy being part of a forward-thinking, collaborative, no-ego team that cares about doing a really good job while still enjoying coming to work, you’ll fit in well here.

The role

This is a true GP role offering autonomy, support and case continuity.

While no day in general practice is ever completely predictable, we intentionally structure our appointments and workflow to support thorough medical and surgical case management, clear communication and good clinical decision-making.

  • A varied and engaging caseload
  • Time to work up cases properly
  • Collaborative case discussions and access to second opinions
  • Support to develop special interests in medicine, surgery, dentistry, imaging, dermatology or behaviour
  • A calm, organised hospital with strong systems and high clinical standards

Work–life balance you can rely on

  • No Sundays
  • No public holidays
  • Rotating Saturday roster

We believe sustainable careers matter and actively support longevity in the profession.

What we offer

  • Above-award remuneration aligned with experience
  • CPD support that exceeds industry standards with meaningful funding
  • Genuine support to develop skills and special interests
  • An experienced veterinary team and highly capable nursing support
  • A well-run, progressive hospital you'll be proud to work in
  • Long-term stability in an independent, values-driven practice

About you

  • 3+ years' experience in small animal practice
  • Bachelor or Doctor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board
  • Strong clinical skills with excellent communication and client-care abilities
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Confidence working independently while contributing positively to a team
  • A calm, professional and thoughtful approach to clinical practice
  • A genuine commitment to ongoing learning and high standards of care
  • Currently living in, and eligible to work in, Australia

Allambie Vet is an independently owned Northern Beaches hospital with a long history in our local community.

We're more than just a clinic, we're a team committed to excellent veterinary medicine and to creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported and proud of the care they provide.

Many of our veterinarians and nurses have chosen to build lasting careers here, and we're proud to provide an environment where experienced people can continue learning, developing and enjoying the profession.

Because we believe experienced veterinarians deserve better:
better support, better equipment, better culture and a career that's sustainable long-term.

Six months or something longer?

The immediate opportunity has arisen because one of our vets is taking six months away to travel but we're deliberately keeping an open mind about what the right appointment looks like.

You might be looking for a six-month position that fits perfectly with your plans.

You might be looking for somewhere to settle permanently.

Or you might start with us for six months and discover that neither of us wants it to end.

We're open to all three.

Our preference is for a full-time veterinarian, but if this role otherwise sounds like a great fit and you're looking for a slightly different arrangement, we'd still encourage you to get in touch.

Ultimately, we're more interested in finding the right veterinarian for our hospital, clients and team than fitting someone into a particular contract.

If you're an experienced veterinarian looking for a role where your experience is respected, your relationships with clients matter and your growth is genuinely supported, we'd love to hear from you.

Start date: December 2026 or start of January 2027
