The opportunity is for a Steel Tank Design Engineer to take ownership of our steel bolted tank range. This is a rare chance to shape a product category: refine what we already make, build out new ranges, and make our tanks more cost-effective, more standardised and easier to quote and build.
You’ll report to the Category Manager – Metal Tanks and work closely with our estimating, drafting, procurement and production teams. This role can be based at either our Prestons (Sydney) or Carole Park (Brisbane) site, and we’re flexible on location for the right person.
What you’ll be doing:
- Reviewing our standard tank designs for technical accuracy, Australian Standards compliance and cost efficiency, and recommending improvements with supporting calculations.
- Leading the design and documentation of our Stainless Steel Liner Tank range through to production.
- Developing a standard rectangular tank range, with structural and layout designs ready for drafting.
- Building and maintaining version-controlled Bills of Materials across our round and rectangular ranges.
- Assessing bespoke tank inquiries for feasibility and manufacturability, and turning around design and costing quickly.
- Contributing design input and preliminary costing for new product development.
- Working with suppliers to finalise material specs (grades, coatings, gaskets, sealants) for potable, fire and process applications.
- Driving cost savings through design optimisation, alternative materials and better construction methods.
What you’ll bring:
- A degree in Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in structural or mechanical design, ideally with tanks or fabricated steel products.
- Strong knowledge of relevant Australian Standards.
- Experience with steel and stainless steel design and fabrication.
- Confidence producing engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience developing standard designs and BOMs.
- Proficiency in CAD and engineering design software.
- A practical understanding of design for manufacture and installation.
- Commercial awareness and a sharp eye for detail.
- Genuine ownership: your designs go into production and make a measurable difference.
Choice of location: work from our Prestons or Carole Park site. A collaborative team that values continuous improvement and fresh ideas. The chance to grow with a business that’s investing in its product range.
