“Varied contributions and ideas are valued, understanding that the best outcome is delivered through an effective team that are working towards a common goal” - Dominique Keirens, Sector Manager - Water Infrastructure, SEQ

Balancing the world’s need for safe, reliable water with protecting this critical natural resource for the future requires a deep understanding of interconnected systems. We work with clients across the entire project life cycle — from initial planning studies through final construction and operations and maintenance services — on both traditional and alternative project-delivery options (design-build, public-private partnerships and financing).

With a robust design and construction division, AECOM offers a unique perspective on designing projects that are fully constructible.

Everyone belongs at AECOM. We’re committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - because great ideas come from diverse perspectives. AECOM is proud to be a Fortune 500 Most Admired Company, a WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality, #Work180 Equitable Workplace Awards 2025 Winner and an AWEI Bronze Tier LGBTQ+ Inclusive Employer.

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager ready to step into a director level role within our NSW Water Infrastructure team, based in either our Sydney or Newcastle office. In this key role, you will work alongside a group of highly skilled specialists, will be a trusted partner to a diverse range of clients across the water sector in Australia and will develop a deep understanding of their challenges to co-create innovative solutions that help shape the future.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Support our clients and manage relationships with consultants, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Deliver complex projects and programs ensuring they meet client expectations, timelines, and specifications.
  • Manage change, quality, health, safety and risk elements.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects across the entire life cycle, including design management, tendering, contract administration, financial management, project scheduling and risk management.
  • Coordination of multidisciplinary teams - coordinating specialists to deliver high-impact results.

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • A strong foundation in project management, with a genuine interest in projects that create real-world impact.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline.
  • Ideally, experience within the water & wastewater industry.
  • Proven client-side experience across multiple sectors, with the ability to manage stakeholders, priorities and deliver outcomes in complex environments.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship skills, with experience in consulting, construction, or professional services highly regarded.

Why you’ll love working with us:

  • Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, part-time, job-sharing and hybrid work options.
  • Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year.
  • Volunteer and representation leave.
  • Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better.
