Clinical Psychologist – Permanent Part-Time

Actualise Psychology Pty Ltd – Sydney CBD NSW

Actualise Psychology is seeking an experienced and thoughtful Clinical Psychologist to join our established Sydney CBD private practice and consultancy in a permanent part-time position.

This is a newly created role and an important appointment for our practice. We are looking for someone who wants more than simply a private-practice caseload - someone who values excellent clinical work, professional autonomy, thoughtful collaboration and the opportunity to become a significant long-term member of a growing practice.

We are at an exciting stage in the development of Actualise, with a focus on building a more connected and collaborative clinical team. This appointment will be an important part of that transition, offering the opportunity to contribute to the development of the practice rather than simply step into an established structure.

The position will commence at 2 days per week (Monday & Wednesday), with the intention of progressively increasing toward 3 - 4 days per week over time, subject to mutual agreement and practice growth.

For the right person, there is genuine scope for the role to develop beyond a clinical position into increasing involvement in the leadership and development of Actualise as opportunities emerge and the working relationship develops.

The role will primarily involve psychological assessment and therapy with an adult clinical population. Our clients present with a broad range of concerns, including anxiety and mood difficulties, trauma and attachment-related issues, adjustment and occupational difficulties, interpersonal and relationship concerns, and more complex psychological presentations.

You will progressively develop a private-practice caseload through a combination of established practice referral pathways and new referrals. The practice works with a substantial military and emergency services population, so experience with, or an interest in working with, these client groups would be advantageous. We're focused on quality and sustainability rather than maximising appointment numbers. The role is intended to provide appropriate capacity for clinical administration, professional development, consultation and thoughtful clinical practice. Depending on your background and interests, there may also be opportunities to contribute to organisational psychology and consulting work over time, although the initial focus of the position will be clinical practice.

Key responsibilities

Conduct psychological assessment and formulation with adult clients

Provide therapy and therapeutic intervention tailored to individual client needs

Develop and manage a private-practice caseload

Exercise independent clinical judgement in treatment planning and delivery

Maintain strong professional boundaries, clinical governance and documentation standards

Engage in reflective practice and professional consultation

Participate in collegial consultation and contribute to the ongoing development of the practice

Potentially contribute to organisational psychology and consulting projects where opportunities, interests, and experience align

About you

Hold general registration with AHPRA and endorsement in Clinical Psychology, OR be nearing completion of the Clinical Psychology Registrar Program with endorsement anticipated around the proposed commencement date

Have strong psychological assessment, formulation and therapeutic skills

Enjoy working relationally and formulation-first, while drawing flexibly on evidence-based therapeutic approaches

Be comfortable working with complexity and exercising independent clinical judgement

Bring warmth, curiosity and genuine engagement to therapeutic relationships

Demonstrate strong professional boundaries, reliability and attention to clinical governance and documentation

Value reflective practice, professional and personal responsibility, and be receptive to feedback and professional consultation

Enjoy autonomy while also wanting to be part of a collegial professional environment

Be interested in contributing to the development of a growing clinical team, recognising that our more integrated and collaborative ways of working are continuing to evolve

Value open communication, mutual professional respect and a willingness to discuss different perspectives constructively

Be seeking a meaningful, longer-term professional opportunity in which you can develop a sense of connection, contribution and investment

Private-practice experience would be advantageous but is not essential for an otherwise strong candidate

Training and experience across both Clinical and Organisational Psychology would be particularly welcome, but is not required

Permanent part-time employment, including paid leave entitlements

An initial 2-day working arrangement (Monday and Wednesday), with potential to increase to 3–4 days over time by mutual agreement

Professional consulting rooms in the Sydney CBD

A sustainable clinical workload with appropriate non-client time

Regular access to individual supervision via the practice director during working hours, as well as monthly peer supervision opportunities

Dedicated professional development support, including protected CPD time and an annual CPD allowance

Considerable professional and clinical autonomy

The opportunity to help shape the development of a more connected, collaborative clinical practice

Potential for broader responsibilities, including organisational consulting and clinical leadership, as the practice develops, and where interests & experience align

About us

Actualise Psychology is an established Sydney-based psychology consultancy and private practice, operating since 2016. Our work is grounded in a belief in unearthing human potential and cultivating psychological robustness. We work with individuals, couples and organisations across a broad spectrum of psychological functioning - from the treatment of mental ill-health and support through challenging life circumstances, through to enhancing performance, leadership and potential.

Our services span psychological assessment and intervention, individual and couples therapy, executive coaching and organisational consulting. Across our work, we emphasise evidence-informed psychological practice that is grounded in theory while remaining agile and responsive to the individual. We value sophisticated formulation, clinical judgement and thoughtful tailoring of intervention rather than the mechanical application of therapeutic protocols.

The practice is led by a dual-endorsed Clinical and Organisational Psychologist, alongside a small team of Clinical Psychologists and dedicated administrative support. We aim to provide an environment that is professional, warm, personable and intellectually engaging, where psychologists have considerable autonomy in their clinical work alongside access to collegial consultation and support. Our clinicians currently work across a range of part-time arrangements, and we are intentionally developing greater opportunities for professional overlap, consultation and collaboration. This new employee position represents an important step in building a more connected clinical team while retaining the autonomy and individualised approach that characterise our practice.
