Assistant Director Content Accessibility (Easy English) Part-time Temporary with a Possibility of Permanency
Details: Do you have a passion for clear and accessible communication? Do you want to help the community more easily access government information?
The Assistant Director Content Accessibility (Easy English) leads change to build the capability of the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) to deliver accessible communication in the style of Easy English and Easy Read. These styles are similar and we will use the term Easy English to cover both.
Easy English is a style of accessible written communication. It helps many people with intellectual and cognitive disabilities and benefits others in the community. It uses simple words and detailed images to support understanding. This role requires someone who is self-driven and passionate about accessibility.
The successful candidate will undertake the following duties:
- Initiate research and draft resources for staff use. This will include consultation with other business areas across ACTPS and external stakeholders, such as disability organisations.
- Coordinate a peer network of colleagues to identify and progress priorities. This is done in line with the ACTPS values of respect, collaboration, integrity and innovation.
- Provide best practice advice and at times direct support to teams creating Easy English documents.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
We are looking for someone with experience or interest in Easy English or accessible communication. You will need to demonstrate your understanding and experience in delivering accessible communications, however formal qualifications in communications are not necessary.
