Operations Manager – Econo Lodge East Adelaide
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of Econo Lodge East Adelaide, a 66-room hotel.
Managed by 1834 Hotels, a leading hospitality management company with a growing portfolio across Australia and New Zealand, this role is ideal for a hands‑on hospitality professional who enjoys being actively involved in hotel operations, delivering exceptional guest experiences and leading by example.
This is a genuine hands‑on operational role, not a traditional office‑based management position. The successful candidate will be required to work on the front desk five days per week, managing daily reception duties while also taking responsibility for the overall operation, financial administration and performance of the hotel.
We are seeking a proactive, commercially minded leader who is equally comfortable welcoming guests, managing reservations and handling check‑ins as they are managing debtors, processing invoices, overseeing staff and driving operational improvements.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Operations & Asset Management, you will be responsible for the overall day‑to‑day management of the 66‑room property, combining active front office duties with operational leadership, financial administration and commercial responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
Front Office & Guest Experience
Working on the front desk five days per week, including managing guest check‑ins, check‑outs, reservations, enquiries and daily reception operations.
Taking ownership of the hotel's daily operations, ensuring a seamless and welcoming guest experience.
Managing guest feedback, resolving issues and maintaining consistently high service standards.
Ensuring accurate reservations, guest accounts, billing and payment processing.
Managing accounts receivable, including debtor monitoring, payment follow‑ups and collection of outstanding balances.
Maintaining accurate debtor records, reconciling accounts and ensuring timely resolution of outstanding invoices and payment discrepancies.
Processing supplier invoices, checking accuracy, allocating expenses and coordinating approvals and payments with the central finance team.
Overseeing daily banking, cash handling, financial reconciliations and end‑of‑day procedures.
Preparing and reviewing operational and financial reports to support effective decision‑making.
Monitoring hotel performance, operating expenses, labour costs and opportunities to improve profitability.
Supporting revenue performance through effective inventory management, pricing awareness and local market engagement.
People & Property Operations
Leading, supporting and coordinating the front office and housekeeping teams.
Managing staff rostering, productivity and operational requirements.
Coordinating maintenance requirements and ensuring guest rooms and public areas are presented to a high standard.
Ensuring compliance with WHS requirements, company policies and relevant legislation.
Working closely with the 1834 Hotels support team to achieve operational and commercial objectives.
This role requires someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, supporting the team wherever required and taking ownership of both the operational and financial administration requirements of the property.
About You
We are looking for a practical, motivated hospitality professional who enjoys working directly with guests, has strong administrative and financial skills, and takes pride in running an efficient, well‑presented hotel.
You will bring:
Previous experience in hotel operations, ideally in an Operations Manager, Assistant Manager, Front Office Manager or similar leadership role.
Strong front office experience, including reservations, guest services and daily reception procedures.
A willingness and enthusiasm to work operational front desk shifts five days per week.
Experience with accounts receivable, debtor management, invoice processing and daily financial reconciliations.
Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to financial administration, billing accuracy and outstanding account management.
Sound commercial awareness, including budgeting, cost control and labour management.
Experience coordinating housekeeping, maintenance and general hotel operations.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance guest‑facing duties, administrative tasks and management responsibilities.
Excellent communication, leadership and problem‑solving skills.
Experience with hotel property management systems, with RMS experience advantageous.
Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and other financial or administrative systems.
A proactive, flexible and hands‑on approach to managing a hotel.
A strong commitment to guest satisfaction, safety and operational excellence.
Above all, we are looking for someone who leads from the front. You will enjoy being part of the daily operation, building relationships with guests and staff, maintaining strong financial controls and taking pride in the performance and presentation of the property.
